The Shopping Channel More Than Triples Its Dropship Sales and Expands Merchandise by More than 50 Percent Using VendorNet Dropship Manager

The Shopping Channel, a Rogers Communications company, and Canada’s only televised shopping service introduces 30 to 60 new items per day – an expensive and risky proposition if it inventoried all of the merchandise. When a decision was made to expand its dropship business model to broaden its product offerings, The Shopping Channel’s IT and Accounting resources knew there was no way they could meet this directive using their current processes.

Mike Smith, Director of IT Operations for The Shopping Channel explains, “Dropshipping for our business makes perfect sense because it allows us to introduce a large number of new products without incurring the upfront inventory costs and warehouse handling and facility expenses. Our old dropship model was bogged down with manual labor- intensive processes to transmit orders, ship confirm orders, match and enter invoices for payment, not to mention the day-to-day back and forth with the vendors. With VendorNet, The Shopping Channel has grown its dropship vendor network by more than 300 percent, added over 50 percent more dropship skus to its product base. IT intervention or management on a day-to-day basis has been eliminated. Accounting has achieved huge gains in productivity noting that previously when 1000s of units of a single product were sold in a single day, invoice matching and payments took literally a month. Online to On-Air Without Risk

The Shopping Channel leverages the tremendous opportunity the Internet presents to test products at a significantly lower cost than other sales channels. Andrew Natale, Project Manager at The Shopping Channel elaborates, “For our business, our air time is our bread and butter so it is very important that the products we feature on-air generate a profitable return. To gauge a product’s demand and minimize our risk, we leverage our website to test products before putting them on-air.
